Glaucoma and Cannabis

What symptoms can Cannabis relieve?

Although Tetrahydrocannabinol or “THC” is the most known of the compounds in marijuana, at least 66 cannabinoids have been isolated from this plant. The effects of most of these compounds is still unknown and it is widely believed that it is the combination of these chemicals which creates the diverse range of medical benefits including, but not limited to, pain relief.

In 2003 the American Academy of Ophthalmology released a position statement which said that “studies demonstrated that some derivatives of marijuana did result in lowering of  I.O.P. [intraocular eye pressure] when administered orally, intravenously, or by smoking, but not when topically applied to the eye. The duration of the pressure-lowering effect is reported to be in the range of 3 to 4 hours”

    CANNABIS helps glaucoma by

    1) A neural protectant of the optic nerve.

    2) Increases blood supply to eye.

    3) Lowers IOP

“Legal” meds and surgery only lowers IOP. Not enough to stem glauacoma. Cannabis need not be smoked, rather a tincture can be used to take this medicine.

It is unimaginable, incomprehensible and an utter outrage that USA government has outlawed this valuable medicine. If you believe in God, it is also blasphemous that the USA would like to exterminate one of Gods creatures.

My physician has glaucoma and uses the tinctures himself. While I’m sorry that he has glaucoma, it is good to know that he uses it as well.

I often wonder, if because I take oral marijuana for pain, if it will it work to prevent glaucoma?
